Known through the ages as the city of diamonds, the center for diamond cutting and diamond trade, Amsterdam is the largest city of the country Netherland. This city is famous for its vibrant culture, friendly people who speak English quite well, crisscrossing canals dotted throughout the city and its many canals and rivers as well as the serious party atmosphere that seems to have a strong grip over the charming European countryside city.
There is almost something for anyone who visits the city. Although it is not the capital of the country (that distinction belongs to the city of Hague), it does boast of the center for culture and art. The city is known for its tolerant view of many vices that are taken to be illegal elsewhere in the world. For example, prostitution is actually legal in the country and in Amsterdam you can literally shop or rather browse for prostitutes through windows. Furthermore, the carrying of cannabis in any form may be taken to be illegal in the country but the city officials are very tolerant of those who carry it around in minor quantities for personal consumption.
This tolerant view is the major reason behind the many tourists and visitors who grace Amsterdam year after year. Getting into Amsterdam is easy through the means of bus and train while flying in there shall land you at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol located some 15 kms out of the city. When flying out of the country ensure that you reach the airport well ahead of time to compensate for the time lost in traffic and in security checks as there are no exceptions to both here.
